Frankie Rose
In March 2007 Frankie Rose founded the band Vivian Girls, who would unintentionally launch a music scene in Brooklyn that would go on to influence a new generation of bands throughout the world, mixing the sounds of lo-fi garage, big reverb-drenched Phil Spector-produced 60s girl groups, a touch of Velvet Underground and Jesus And Mary Chain, and with a strong DIY ethic at it's core. Three years on and the borough of New York is still the most important place for new and exciting music. As drummer, songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist in Vivian Girls, Frankie Rose would write several songs on their debut LP including the standout track “Where Do You Run To”, the band's only track to make it into Pitchfork's “Top 500 songs of the 2000s” - the LP sold out of it's initial pressing in 10 days on the tiny Mauled By Tigers label.
In 2008 after a brief period touring in Vivian Girls and also playing drums and singing in Crystal Stilts, Frankie joined Crystal Stilts as a full-time member. The band's critically acclaimed debut album “Alight Of Night” was released on Slumberland Records in the USA and on Angular Recordings in Europe, showing up in most “Best of 2008” lists in record stores, music magazines and blogs on both sides of the Atlantic. .
Not content to sit around for the period of time Crystal Stilts planned to spend working on new material, Frankie became the drummer and singer in the Dum Dum Girls, signing to Sub Pop Records and releasing debut album “I Will Be” in Spring 2010, giving Frankie her third critically acclaimed album release in a row. Between The Dum Dum tours, Frankie’s time at home was well spent writing and recording her 1st solo release, which hit the streets in July of 2010. Perhaps a moodier, dreamier take then on Frankie’s prior projects, A beautiful collision took place, as if the Cocteau twins and spacemen 3 had tracked a split LP with some help from Phil Spector. The LP made it on to some of the best “year end lists” including Rough Trade and Manhattan’s most esteemed, Other Music. Named one of New York Times Style magazines “Ones to watch” Frankie Rose is truly a force to be reckoned with.[soundcloud url="http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/10329184" params="auto_play=false&player_type=tiny&font=Courier&color=ff1a29" width="100%" height="18" ]
